When Life Gives You
When it comes to beverages, I am quite simple…water, water, water…then fresh juice. Ok, then wine, and beer, and the occasional cocktail!
My in-laws have the best Meyer lemons and each season, we get buckets full of them. This spring I juiced more oranges and tangerines I have ever done in my life, but I didn’t quite know what to do with all the lemons.
Of all the juice I have made, never once had I made straight lemonade. Why in the world did I wait so long?! I don’t have much of a sweet tooth and figured any I made would be packed full of sugar, but I modified a recipe to include less sugar and viola, the perfect lemonade.
Combine water and sugar in a saucepan. On medium heat stir occasionally until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool slightly.
Juice your lemons and in a large pitcher, combine the simple syrup and stir well. Slowly add the cold water until everything is mixed.
Cover and store in the refrigerator for about 2 hours or until thoroughly chilled. Add some mint from the garden and enjoy!
For sweeter lemonade, add a full cup of sugar.
